Get Slim and Build Muscle with Leftover Easter Eggs!

Posted in Health at 1:05 am by bitsypieces

In the past, eggs have gotten a bad rap. Health conscious folks used to avoid the egg, assuming that it was loaded with fat and cholesterol.

But these days, fitness and nutrition experts know that the egg is one of the best foods you can eat to lose weight and build muscle. Here are a few facts from American Egg Board:

  • One large egg contains just 72 calories
  • One large egg white (no yolk) has a mere 17 calories
  • An egg contains about 6 grams of protein
  • Egg whites have no cholesterol and very little fat
  • Egg yolks are packed with nutrients, including choline, lutein, Vitamin A, Vitamin D, folate and calcium

Since it’s low-calorie and high in protein, the egg is the ideal food for anyone who wants to lose weight and build muscle… just ask any bodybuilder. (Remember how Rocky downed raw eggs before training?)

Leftover hardboiled Easter eggs always find their way into my diet the following week. They’re a “clean” food that I can eat guilt-free!

My favorite way to eat them is to simply toss hardboiled eggs into a cooler before I leave the house. They’re the perfect on-the-go snack whenever I’m running errands. They satisfy my hunger for a lot fewer calories (and less cash) than a fast food meal.

For a quick lunch or meal at home, I usually use three or four hardboiled eggs. I keep one yolk and toss the rest, using mostly whites. I chop the yolk and whites, mix in 1 teaspoon of dijon mustard, and roll in a large lettuce leaf  or whole grain wrap. This low-calorie “egg salad” is perfect for a muscle-building meal after a strength training workout.
